Social groups barely change the speed-density relationship in unidirectional pedestrian flow, but affect operational behaviours

چکیده
Pedestrian crowds are not homogeneous. One common distinguishing characteristic is the membership in social groups based on friendship or families, for example. It important to understand how these affect pedestrian dynamics inform their consideration safety planning. Despite previous work groups, there a paucity of controlled experiments effect under normal conditions which crucial delineate relative risks pedestrians non-emergency situations. To address this, we present results from influence dyadic unidirectional flow. We consider comprised 100%, 67%, 0% groups. Our experimental setting crowd densities between 1.25 and 4.0 per m2. find that while relationship speed density affected by presence size this smaller than overall variability observations. In contrast, clear differences movement individuals Social move at slower speeds overtake others less frequently. Regardless density, further away next-closest are, suggesting larger empty space around These findings suggest when need be considered management modelling conditions. At macroscopic level, described speed-density relationships, explicitly but considering microscopic including overtaking personal space, they should explicitly.

Multi-class speed-density relationship for pedestrian traffic
We introduce a modeling approach for pedestrian speed-density relationship. It is motivated by a high scatter in real data that precludes the use of traditional equilibrium relationships. To characterize the observed pattern we relax the homogeneity assumption of equilibrium relations and propose a multi-class model. In addition to the general modeling framework, we also present some concrete m...

متن کاملInvestigating the effect of social groups in uni-directional pedestrian flow
The influence of cohesion among members of dyads is investigated in scenarios characterized by uni-directional flow by means of a discrete model: a corridor and the egress from a room with a bottleneck of varying width are simulated. The model manages the dynamics of simulated group members with an adaptive mechanism, balancing the probability of movement according to the dispersion of the grou...
متن کاملSocial Groups and Pedestrian Crowds: Experiment on Dyads in a Counter Flow Scenario
The calibration and validation of pedestrian simulations require the acquisition of empirical evidences of human behaviour. The current work presents the results of an experiment focused on the potentially combined effect of counter flow and grouping on pedestrian dynamics. In particular, we focused on: (i) four different configurations of flow ratio (the rate between the minor flow and the tot...
